On a tight budget? Create your own accessible HTML versions and host them on your own server. The Document Remediation widget automatically detects them — no OctoComply subscription needed.
Place an accessible HTML file at the same path as your PDF, under a /civiccomply folder:

The widget checks this path automatically. If it finds the file, visitors see the “View Accessible Version” button — no API call, no subscription, everything stays on your server. The free Document Remediation widget + self-hosted versions give you a complete document accessibility solution at zero cost.
Common questions
Is the Document Remediation widget really free with no limits?
Yes. The widget works on unlimited pages and captures unlimited accommodation requests. Free tier shows 90 days of request history with OctoComply branding in the modal. Paid tiers add full history, white-label, and analytics. The actual remediation work (building accessible HTML from PDFs and office documents) is a separate add-on service — available on every tier, with discounted rates for Professional and Enterprise subscribers. How is this different from accessibility overlays?
Overlays like AccessiBe and AudioEye are JavaScript shims that try to fix broken pages on the fly — they're widely criticized by the accessibility community and don't address WCAG conformance at the source. The OctoComply Document Remediation Service is fundamentally different: we build a new, clean HTML version of every document. The widget on your site is just a delivery mechanism that links visitors to the already-remediated document. We don't overlay anything; we don't auto-tag. The output is a real, properly-structured HTML page that's easier to read for every visitor. Every remediation ships with a public certification record showing the five-tool validation methodology — see /certification.
Can I host accessible versions on my own server instead of using OctoComply?
Yes. Place an HTML version of your PDF at the same path under /civiccomply on your server (e.g. /civiccomply/docs/budget.html for /docs/budget.pdf). The widget detects it automatically via a HEAD request — no subscription needed, no data leaves your server. This works alongside OctoComply-hosted versions: the widget checks our API first, then falls back to your mirror path.
What counts as a 'page' in a scan?
Each unique URL on your website that the scanner visits counts as one page. We respect robots.txt and don't count assets like images or PDFs separately from the pages that contain them.
Can I get an Accessibility Validation Report on Professional?
Yes. Once your site scores 90 or above on a Professional-tier scan, you can generate an Accessibility Validation Report valid for 90 days. Re-scan to renew.
Does OctoComply cover the DOJ Title II ADA mandate?
OctoComply audits against WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the exact standard the DOJ adopted in its Title II final rule. Achieving a passing score gives you strong evidence of good-faith compliance efforts.
Can I remove the OctoComply branding from the widget?
Yes. A one-time White-Label License ($990 per domain, $495 for additional domains under the same organization) removes the "Powered by OctoComply" attribution from the widget modal. Contact hello@octocomply.com to purchase.
What happens to accommodation requests if I cancel?
Your data remains available for 90 days after cancellation. You can export it at any time. The Document Remediation widget will continue to work on the free tier (with branding) — you never lose the accommodation request capture capability.
